Stepping Out On Faith! Here's to You Women!

March is not only Women's History Month, but it's also FloFIYAH's 6th year anniversary! As we celebrate both our collective accomplishments as women throughout history and our personal success as a community organization, we wish to offer inspiration to those women trying to build a legacy through entrepreneurship and following their dreams.

As women, especially women of color (I am a first generation American of Haitian descent) we have additional hurdles that can seemingly hinder our dreams. We can perceive things as limitations to developing our vision, be it dedication to family or a commitment to our careers.

But, as we reflect on the accomplishments of women across time, we find that women have the power and drive to do it all! As women, we find a way to go the extra mile. We cultivate our skills in the face of adversity and flourish under harsh scrutiny. We hold faith for the entire family and follow our instincts. And that's something to be proud of!

My personal journey of starting a business was not all sunshine and roses. In fact, though the roses have bloomed, it's the thorns that made me stronger. Knowing that cultivating FloFIYAH (named after my family: Florence, Izaiah, Ylijah, Aniyah, Harris) meant building a legacy for my family, I found the strength to never quit. Unity, togetherness and a commitment to community has always been a driving force behind FloFIYAH.

Life doesn't come with a blueprint, and neither does building a business or cultivating a dream. I have struggled through the challenges of the last 6 years while learning so much about myself and what I am capable of doing. It taught me to move through tough times no matter what. I had to keep the faith as I faced opposition and heartache, and stay humble as I grew and flourished.

Stepping out in faith is scary because no one paved this road that I travel on but I do it not only for me but for my family, my children, to give them a role model, a mentor and a woman that through it all continues to grow and elevate. The trials soon become triumphs and regardless of what happens, I know that my family can say that I created a company we all can be proud of. That offers more than spiritual fulfillment and financial security for us, but makes a profound impact on the communities we serve, touching lives for years to come. And that, my friends, makes every thorn worth it!
